of your life
- At each visit: urine test (sugar and proteins), measurement of the blood pressure, and weight.
- First visit around week 7-9: Interview. Blood pressure and examination of urine, GYN examination, PAP smear, bacteriologies from the vagina and urine. Ultrasound to see heart activity and to determine the preliminary pregnancy length. Blood tests; blood type and serologies (i.e. check whether you have immunity against various infections). We also check vitamin D and the thyroid function. In case of an infection, vitamin deficiency or insufficiency of the thyroid, prescriptions will be sent by mail as soon as we have received the results.
- At 13 weeks of pregnancy: 2. Screening for Down’s syndrome; Ultrasound (T1): measurement of the nuchal translucency of your fetus along with hormonal blood tests, and a first body screening of the fetus will be made. The definite length of your pregnancy will be determined.
- Second consultation (at 16-18 weeks of pregnancy): Summing up of results. Now one can possibly see the fetal gender.
- Third consultation: (at around 22 weeks of pregnancy): Vaginal bacteriology and measurements of the cervical length (i.e. screening for premature birth).
- At 23 weeks of pregnancy: Ultrasound (T2): thoroughgoing ultrasound scan that takes about 30 minutes.
- At 24-28 weeks of pregnancy: HGPO test; for those that have risk factors such as a family history of diabetes, BMI >25, age >35, a history of gestational diabetes or have had a baby >4000g: screening for gestational diabetes – which takes at least 2 hours. You don´t need to make an appointment but you need to be fasting. Blood samples will be taken before and 1 and 2 hours after you have taken a very sweet standardized drink (that may taste better if you add some drops of lemon).
- Fourth consultation (around 27-28 weeks of pregnancy): General check-up. For those who have an Rh-negative blood group, an injection of Rhesonativ will be given. We will book an appointment with an anesthesiologist (around 35 weeks) and with a midwife at the Maternité to establish a birth plan and prepare for the potential need of an epidural anesthesia during labor.
- At 32-33 weeks of pregnancy: Ultrasound (T3): weight estimation of the fetus and Doppler measurement in the umbilical cord.
- Fifth consultation: (33-35 weeks of pregnancy): General check-up. Vaginal bacteriology. Planning for the end of the pregnancy.
- Once a week from 35 weeks of pregnancy, at the practice: 10. CTG, blood pressure and urine test
- Sixth consultation (around term): General check-up. Ultrasound and Doppler measurement in the umbilical cord.
Post term: CTG, blood pressure and urine every other day. If there are no complications for you or your fetus, we let the pregnancy pass 10 days post term before eventually doing an induction of labor.
